The Truth and Reality
by Lt Col. A.S.Amarasekera

23 March 2004 - Anagarika Dharmapala was indeed a man with a great vision. It was he who predicted that the Whiteman would one day leave this country, after handing over its reign to natives nurtured by them, who possess a Whiteman's colonial mentality, with an inborn hatred towards the Sinhala Buddhists. He called these future rulers of our motherland, "Kalu Suddhas". It was alsohis prediction that the Whiteman would continue to rule this country in the future, without being physically present, through these "Kalu Suddhas", who would be their successors. He has been proved right beyond any reasonable doubt.

The political leaders of today, who are the rulers of our country, preach to us the doctrine taught to them by the Whiteman, that every citizen of this country has equal rights, irrespective of whether they are indigenous or otherwise. They tell us that this is a multiethnic and multi-religious society, where all citizens have equal rights. They have been cleverly brainwashed by the Whiteman, not to accept the inalienable National Rights of the indigenous Sinhala majority of this country.

Through a convention known as 'The Rights of Nations', the United Nations has accepted that the indigenous population of a nation, enjoy the following National Rights, that are not enjoyed by any subsequent settler population.

The right to call their country their Nation.
The right to the territory of that Nation.
The right to have their language as the National Language.
The right to have their religion as the National Religion.
The right to have their culture as the National Culture.
The right to have their flag as the National Flag.

In countries such as Fiji and New Zealand, where the settler population is the majority, the indigenous population zealously safeguards their National Rights. However our rulers leave no stone unturned to suppress these inalienable National Rights. Are these "Kalu Suddhas" aware that the present Prime Minister of New Zealand, who is from the white settler population and not of the indigenous Maori population, does not enjoy National Rights in that country?

When Burma was granted independence, like here in our country, they too had a substantial Indian Tamil population, brought into that country by the colonial British rulers. The Burmese leaders unlike our leaders insisted that these Indian Tamils should integrate into the Burmese society by taking Burmese names, if they were to be granted citizenship. Those who refused to do so were asked to leave the country. As a result of such action by the Burmese leaders, the percentage of Burmese increased and the percentage of Indian Tamils decreased in that country. In contrast to this our "Kalu Suddhas" for political exuberance, made these Tamils of Indian origin, Indian Tamil citizens of this country, thus increasing their percentage at the expense of the indigenous Sinhala percentage. The last batch of 185000 Indian Tamils were granted citizenship few months ago, by a unanimous vote in the legislature, with no opposition.

Fifty six years have lapsed since independence and during this period these "Kalu Suddhas" who gave us political leadership, either through the UNP or the SLFP, have implemented the dictates of the Whiteman to the letter and today each and every citizen of this country owe Rs.147000/= to the world at large. We have been made to go on our knees and beg for aid from the Whiteman for our very survival, by politicians of both the UNP and the SLFP.

Why should we allow these very politicians, who are responsible for this sorry state of affairs, to dominate the next legislature, when the guarding angles of the Sinhala Buddhist nation, the Bhikkhus, are now poised to enter the legislature, to resurrect our lost glory?

When a fast unto death was commenced under the leadership of Omalpe Sobitha Thero, to protest against unethical conversations in this country, the government promised to enact legislation within sixty days and the fast was ended. What was promised through the legislature was never made possible, as the executive dissolved parliament. The Bhikkhus were thus made to realize, that the political leadership of this country, be it the UNP or the SLFP, are manipulated by the Whiteman and were only puppets on a sting. This is one among many reasons, for their decision to contest at the next general election.

This is a country that has practiced the Westminster system of democracy for over half a century. As a result, the loyalties of the Sinhala Buddhists to political parties outweigh their loyalty to the Sinhala Buddhist cause. It was this phenomenon that Late Gangodawila Soma Thero was trying to reverse.

He was not alone in these efforts, as the Jathika Sangha Sammelanaya was also concentrating their efforts in this direction. It is possible that Gangodawila Soma Thero's untimely death and the sudden election precipitated by the President provided a golden opportunity for those opposed to Sinhala Buddhist unity, to induce the Bhikkhus to act prematurely, by contesting at the next general election. If the Bhikkhus fail to harness adequate Sinhala Buddhist votes, their effort would be counterproductive and would be of great advantage to those who are working against Sinhala Buddhist unity.

Just prior to a general election promises are given or secretive agreements are made with minority parties, for the purpose of capturing power. The promises are often never kept and the secretive agreements with minority parties are abrogated, once exposed, but not before they are partially implemented. Many such secretive agreements, since independence, have been to the disadvantage of the majority indigenous population and to the advantage of the non indigenous minority population. It was rumored prior to the last general election, that there was a secretive agreement between the UNP and the LTTE. This rumor may have had some validity, for after wining the last general election the UNP de proscribed the LTTE and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with them, bypassing the executive President. The leader of the UNP, Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe, thus failed to utilize the 9/11 incident that condemned international terrorism to our advantage. He could have irradiated terrorism in this country then, with international support. Instead the UNP gave the LTTE a new lease of life and conceded to them in the name of peace, what the LTTE was unable to obtain through a terrorist war of attrition.

The second chance to defeat separatism and terrorism in this country has been offered to the President, Mrs. Chandrika Bandaranayake Kumaratunga, through a division in the LTTE, possibly engineered by a foreign country, with vested interests. Karuna the Eastern Commander of the LTTE has openly said that the east cannot and should not be controlled by the north. The majority of the Tamils in the east will support his point of view. The eastern Muslims and the Sinhalese have agitated time and again for a de merger of the Northern Province from the Eastern Province. The merger also stands invalid in law, after the emergency regulations were withdrawn, as pointed out by leading constitutional lawyers. The President has every right to de merge the two Provinces and appoint two governors to administer them separately. Why is she hesitating to do so, when it would be to the advantage of the majority of the people living in the Eastern Province?

Why is she not listening to the voice of the majority, living in the rest of the country, who are clamouring for a de merger? Is she unable to take a decision that would be to the advantage of her own people, because she is a puppet manipulated by the west? How can the rational thinking Sinhala Buddhists have any confidence in an alliance under her leadership?

Many Sinhala Buddhists have also lost confidence in the UNP led by Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe and in fact air the view that the last government was collaborating with the LTTE and the Christian Church. The de proscription of the LTTE, the importation of sophisticated radio equipment for the LTTE, not preventing several LTTE arms shipments from reaching this country etc. etc., justify the allegation that the UNP was collaborating with the LTTE. The Christmas celebration of 2002 is used to drive the message home of collaboration between the UNP and the Christian Church. During the Christmas celebrations of 2002, all the streets in Colombo were lit at the expense of the tax paying public, who are mostly Buddhists. The electricity necessary was pirated from the national grid, on the instructions of a powerful Christian minister.

Therefore the rationally thinking Sinhala Buddhists, who have no confidence in the UNP, under the leadership of Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe and the SLFP/JVP alliance under the leadership of Mrs. Chandrika Bandaranayake Kumaratunga, may be compelled to support the contesting Bhikkhus, hoping that they will be able to introduce some constructive change through the legislature, to regain the lost paradise, in this beautiful country that was and should be the pearl of the Indian Ocean. This is a country that was offered to the Buddha firstly by king Devanampiyatissa, followed by many other kings of the past. It is not the private property of political leaders, who are voted to power by the people. These political leaders should therefore realize that the rights of the Sinhala Buddhists, in this country of the Buddha are inalienable. Any effort by a political leader to infringe on these rights will be considered as an act of a traitor and will be dealt with accordingly. I sincerely hope the political leadership will understand this reality.
